The right to safe water is recognized as the basis of all other human rights, but the world still has the largest proportion of people in safe water crisis. The situation is worse in whole world hilly areas, urban slums, islands, coastal areas and wetlands, where there is still not reliable access to improved water sources.
Water crisis is a health crisis. The use of safe water or sanitation from water, sanitation and hygiene can be reduced by the death of about 1 million people every year. Every 2 minutes a child dies of water related disease.
Water covers every aspect of life. Access to safe water and sanitation can quickly become a problem – enabling people to spend time with school and work and contribute to improved health for women, children and families around the world.
Currently, 785 million people – 1 in 9 – lack access to safe water and 2 billion people – 1 in 3 – lack access to a toilet. These are the people we empower.
